Friday Field Trip - Florissant Fossil Beds

Since nobody has sent me any pictures to share, you're stuck with my last trip to Florissant Fossil Beds. Now that I'm dealing with coming up with my own cover art, I thought I'd take some pictures that might end up with some sort of potential someday, as my next book is set in this vicinity. Friday Field Trip - Fall in Florissant

While I was on the road, Hubster did a Sunday hike in Florissant again. I thought it would be interesting to compare the pictures we took at the end of August with what he saw last week. We definitely have seasons here!

Friday Field Trip - Back to Florissant

Yesterday, hubster and I went on a drive through some of the back county roads, saw two wild turkeys and went back to the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument to walk the Petrified Forest loop again.

I know I posted pictures from there once before, but I thought it might be interesting to do it again. Unlike Florida, there are SEASONS here, and the difference between June and August is noteable. Besides, it's just a darn pretty area. And hubster was happy because it's been raining a lot, and there were mushrooms. One Friday, I'll get him to share his hobby.

Friday Field Trip - Hornbek Homestead

Today, I'm over at author C. Patrick Schulze's blog. He was a guest here not long ago, and he's invited me to his place. I'm talking about "Needlepoint Plotting". Hope you'll pop over there.

Meanwhile, since it's Friday, here at my blog, I've got some pictures to share. Last weekend, we went up to Florissant for their Heritage Days – the pancake breakfast at the firehouse convinced hubster we should give it a go. Across the road, they set up craft booths and had other offerings. Definitely small town, and definitely fun.

We took the back route home, and this time stopped at the Hornbek Homestead, something we'd passed several times before. In honor of the Heritage Days, they had costumed interpreters and were even baking bread in the wood stove. Which smelled scrumptious, I might add.

Friday Field Trip - Florissant Flowers

Last week I shared my vista shots from the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument. I mentioned that the hubster was busy shooting the wildflowers. He's sharing some of his shots today.



His fancy camera gear lets him get much more up close and personal. Now, if anyone can identify the flowers ... :-)

Friday Field Trip - Florissant National Monument

Last Sunday, we went to a new favorite breakfast place in Florissant. Afterward, we went to the nearby Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument. I'd suggested the excursion, since there is an easy 1-mile loop walk through the petrified forest. And it's not Florida, so the weather was pleasant.



Although it was a National Parks Free Weekend, since it's someplace we figure we'll visit many times, we decided to buy an annual pass. And the entire National Park system offers a special Senior rate -- for $10, you get a lifetime admission to ALL National parks. Who says there's no good side to getting older?



I brought my little point-and-shoot. Hubster (who also dressed like we were going on an all-day hiking trek) brought his good camera with the fancy lenses. He took a lot of flower shots.







But today, it's mostly my little vista shots. It was tough choosing just a few for this post. Hope you enjoy!
