What I'm working on: Synopsis (and a title) for Fozzie's book.
Tonight is the BCS Championship Game. Ho Hum?
Around here, I'm more the football fan than hubby (who regards them as the perfect background noise for an afternoon nap). I went to high school games (lived next door to the fullback), then to college games (Go UCLA Bruins). Dad had season tickets to the LA Rams games (yes, I'm that old), although they were for business but sometimes there wasn't a business person around so he'd take family. He had two good seats on the 50 and 4 higher up on the 35. This being the 'olden days', when he had the 2 seats, he'd take my brother, because it was a 'guy thing.' And when I was growing up -- strike that -- getting older (I haven't grown up, don't think I ever will) there were Bowl games on New Years Day. They had Names, not Sponsors. And it was one full day of football. Now, these glorified commercials drag out forever, and who the heck decides who plays? Most of the ones I've watched have been totally one-sided.
So ... I figured I'd share this, which has already been all over the Internet, but I thought it was great. None of the sources I found could locate the author, so I apologize for not giving credit where it is due.
BCS DECLARES GERMANY WINNER OF WORLD WAR II
US Ranked 4th
After determining the Big-12 championship game participants the BCS computers were put to work on other major contests and today the BCS declared Germany to be the winner of World War II.
"Germany put together an incredible number of victories beginning with the annexation of Austria and the Sudetenland and continuing on into conference play with defeats of Poland, France, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands. Their only losses came against the US and Russia; however considering their entire body of work--including an incredibly tough Strength of Schedule--our computers deemed them worthy of the #1 ranking."
Questioned about the #4 ranking of the United States the BCS commissioner stated "The US only had two major victories--Japan and Germany. The computer models, unlike humans, aren't influenced by head-to-head contests--they consider each contest to be only a single, equally-weighted event."
German Chancellor Adolph Hiter said "Yes, we lost to the US; but we defeated #2 ranked France in only 6 weeks." Herr Hitler has been criticized for seeking dramatic victories to earn 'style points' to enhance Germany's rankings. Hitler protested "Our contest with Poland was in doubt until the final day and the conditions in Norway were incredibly challenging and demanded the application of additional forces."
The French ranking has also come under scrutiny. The BCS commented " France had a single loss against Germany and following a preseason #1 ranking they only fell to #2."
Japan was ranked #3 with victories including Manchuria, Borneo and the Philippines.

should i be happy that a team from florida won, or sad that it wasn't FSU?
this year i was surprised- most of the games we actually close. Some weren't (42-13 FSU over Wisc, USC over Penn State, Iowa over South Carolina) but for the most part, we had some nice matchups. I think we got lucky this year! but i'm for the full day of football, not spread out. I mean the biggest games are now on work nights instead of vacation time. takes some of the fun out of it, but you gotta love college football regardless! :-)
here's to waiting 8 months for the 2009 season!
Most of the ones I caught were the lopsided ones. Down here, doesn't matter if it's FSU or UF; the papers hype any Florida team.
