Friday Field Trip - Down to the Mailbox
Sometimes there's beauty in our own backyards. Or at least right down the street. Our mailbox is located 0.7 miles from our house. There's more than a 200 foot elevation gain in that distance (Actually, most of it is in the first five minutes, but it's downhill that way. The killer is that last five minutes going back UP the hill.) At any rate, we gave it a test the other day, and took a few pictures. A collaborative effort: I composed them and the hubster used his camera to shoot what I told him to, more or less. I did a little cropping when he finished. Hope this shows why we're enjoying our new environs.
Wow, what gorgeous photos. Now with a walk to the mailbox like that every day who needs a gym. :) The scenery is breathtaking.

ReplyDeleteTerry - That is AMAZING scenery. In that last photo - is that an elk?! With that daily mail-call climb, I can see you're one writer who doesn't have to worry about cardiovascular disease :-)

Mystery Lovers' Kitchen
Nice photos, Terry! We have to walk or drive a couple of miles to get to terrain like that. I don't know about your neck of the woods, but up here we have to watch out for rattlesnakes and the very occasional mountain lion or bear when we go hiking. I've never seen any of them, and am quite happy about that.
ReplyDeleteCleo - a mule deer, according to the hubster. I believe him since he HAS to know exactly who/what it is. And I'm not pretending for a minute we're going to walk it every day! But even a few times a week is good.
ReplyDeletePatricia - we've been told there are bears, but haven't seen any. Not worried about snakes of any sort when it's this cold. We've also been told they don't frequent altitudes this high.
That is beautiful country. Nice shots. I've never heard of a mule deer. The antlers threw me. At first I thought it was young buck just starting but they didn't look quite right.
ReplyDeleteTerryS - yes, it is a buck. We've been watching the antlers grow on the guys that come through here. I don't know how old this one would be because it's an annual process. They'll shed them at the end of the year and then grow new ones for next year. Until they're fully grown, I don't know how to judge age. (But I imagine I'll be learning)
