A quick 'drive by' posting today. I'm trying to finish line-edits for Hidden Fire, but was taking a break making blog rounds and found an interesting post at Romance Bandits about comic strips. I mentioned that Calvin and Hobbes had been such a favorite with my son that he carved a Halloween jack-o-lantern in Hobbes' image one year. I went through far too many boxes of "someday I'll sort these" photographs (this one was taken in 1987) and found the picture I'd snapped of his handiwork. Now I'll have to avoid looking at ALL the pictures in ALL the boxes. Digital cameras have probably kept us from having to add on at least three more rooms.

Oh how cool is that??? I can't believe he was only 12 when he carved that. I take it your son is of an artistic bent.
Yes, he's very much the artistic one of the family. Yearbook photographer, editor, and he'd like nothing more than to be able to make his living at his wildlife photography. He designed my website (and shaved about 30 years off my photo!). One summer he painted a picture on the back of his bedroom door. I think we'll ship it to him one of these days.
Oh my, that is just fantastic! My son would go nuts if I could do something like that on his door.
Dianna - he did it himself. We moved here when he started 11th grade, so he was older than 12. He copied a picture from Sports Illustrated using the 'grid' method. And spilled very little paint, if any on the carpet as I recall. If my son doesn't want the door, maybe we can send it to you. LOL.
My son would go nuts, here really would, with our luck though it wouldn't fit.....LOL
Wow! I love it! That has to be the coolest pumpkin ever :-)
Thanks so much for sharing, Terry!
Very impressive! I've always done well to carve a mouth and two eyes!
Jason was always the best at pumpkins! I think he was 15 or 16 when all that stuff happened...I was the one who was 12...in braces, with fluffy hair. ;)
Thanks, Jess:
The date on the picture said 1987. Did the math, but for the wrong kid. My bad.
OK, formal retraction. He wasn't 12, he was just shy of 16.
Who says getting old is no fun? Everything is new all over again.
That's okay Terry, even at 16 I couldn't do something like that.
the only reason I can keep my kids apart is there is 12 years between them.
There's about 4 years between kids one and two, and three minutes between kids two and three. I guess that means there's also about 4 years between kid one and kid three.
Oh you had twins! One of my cousins had twins, she had a thirteen year old and a twelve year old then had the twins. We thought we were going to have to have her committed.
